For a long time I've wanted a madonna and child image to go above each of the girls' beds. I've been waiting for years (shame on me) to find just the right one. A few weeks ago I got an idea, found a small madonna and child plaque (after a lot of google searching to find one I liked - I'm very picky about Mary's features in art) and did a little research on molding and casting. Here is what I'll be using:
plastic (don't be alarmed) relief, found here for $1.15
...some silicone to make the mold, found here
In the end I'm hoping the result will be something like these, but with Mary and Jesus as subject instead of a gibson girl or one of those cameo ladies. I have no idea how difficult this will be or whether I stand a chance at making it work, but whatever the outcome I'll post the result. As usual I'm way ahead of myself here as I don't even have my materials yet. :)

that sounds beautiful - can't wait to see how it turns out!
good luck on your endeavor! Looking at your crafty talents, I'd say the odds are in your favor for a beautiful gift.
Sounds like a lovely idea - I have do doubt of your success! What kind of dress will she be wearing? Will you make it?
Thank you, friends. I do hope it will turn out well.
Erin, I'm not entirely sure about her dress yet, but we have so much going on right now we may just buy one. Truth be told, I feel a bit guilty about that. :(
What a beautiful gift! I'm sure Gianna will treasure it knowing it was her mama that made it for her with love. Not sure where you might get Gianna's dress but there are some amazing First Communion dress shops online that you might find something at. Congratulations Gianna!
