Demolition began late afternoon yesterday. These guys were in and out of here in less than five hours.
old flooring still in place (and my baseboards, oh the hours I spent installing them! Months of work to complete, ripped up in five minutes!)
I know you'll think I'm crazy, but all this is rather fascinating to me. Inconvenient, yes, but interesting as well. I love learning a little about construction, repair and restoration, and now I'm looking forward to the day we buy a home and I can rip floors up and knock walls out, making it just the way I've always envisioned. (I know I'm dreamy.)

oh, so sorry! we went through this right after Christmas 2008 - those demo guys can get carried away if you don't keep them in check! my whole downstairs was in ruins for about 2 months - and I know what you mean about the noise :)
It is almost painful to see your baseboards missing! It is always so enlightening to observe your perspective on things. I think your example is sloooooowwwwwwly effecting change in my outlook. As usual, thank you for sharing.
I guess it's good to find the process fascinating rather than be very annoyed and irritated by it. I hope things go smoothly and your home is left the better for it.
I love change! And although I am happy for your recent trip to Hawaii...I am insanely jealous :) It looked just like I envision it!
Now these evoke much more unpleasant memories. I am all too familiar with the sounds of those fans and dehumidfiers - our septic backed up into the house here in KC only two months after moving in. Blech! They tore up the new carpet in the basement, sanitized, dried - oh how blessed the quiet was when they were gone. Hopefully your disarray will be gone sooner than ours. We finally got the NEW new carpet installed two days before Christmas. Boy was I happy to get my classroom back and boxes back into storage. Looking forward to seeing those dining chairs in their proper place.
