beautiful clutter: the learning table in autumn
butterflies and flowers in springtime. Yes - in our dining room!
nature study: proper care and feeding of rosebushes

Though completely off-season, raising and studying butterflies
was our favorite project of the semester. Highly recommended!
As for our curriculum, we've tweaked a number of things we'd originally set out with.
We simplified our morning prayers from this to a morning offering and a Hail Mary. I'm glad we did. Gianna loves offering her day to Our Lord, and found the St. Thomas prayer cumbersome. Perhaps she'll enjoy it later, but for now I'd like to keep things as simple and captivating as possible.
We switched our original math course out for Math-U-See (Primer), which works well and is quite enjoyable.
We abandoned our handwriting program in favor of the more beautiful lettering in the Italic Series. Gianna wants her letters to look "pretty" (I wonder where she gets that from). :)
For history we're reading Little House and Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans. Gianna loves history.
Nature study is all about exploring, observing and having fun. It's all over the place from sea life, rose and flower study, worms and roly-polies, to butterflies at Christmas time. Lots of fun and beauty in science class!
We read holy scripture together from the Golden Children's Bible, recommended by Laura Berquist.
We still use Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. We love it!

For extra-curricular activity Gianna does ballet and art class weekly.
My husband reads Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book to Gianna every night. Magical tales, and magic experienced with her "favorite man in the whole wide world". What could be better?

Beautiful indeed!
Looks like a charmed life for the whole family!
When I started homeschooling, I started out with one handwriting program, but quickly switched to Italic as well. It is just prettier! My son is now on the final book of the series. I focus a lot on good penmanship. You'll love this series. I wish I had been taught this method in school.
Definitely beautiful! You inspire me.
sounds perfect, Kristen! :)
Your dining room wall is great! Is it just a paper tree? I love it!
How beautiful! I love your dining room wall!
Websterm, yes, the tree is just brown construction paper (if you look closely you'll see where the pieces are taped together!) The leaves are from those 12x12 scrapbook papers you find at craft stores. Thank you!
Beautiful homeschooling indeed! I, too, loved the tree and leaves in the dining room. :)
The wall with fall leaves is just lovely. I wish I was more artistic! I love beauty but am not particularly good at creating it (at least visually) myself.
Your homeschooling sounds very appealing. And reasonable. I have an almost four year old right now who is fascinated by learning, and I'm just starting to think about putting together a slightly more formal sort of schooling for him next fall. Thank you for all the good ideas!
I love your blog! Your family look delightful. Please could you tell me how your autumn wall looked as a spring and summer wall, and do you have a picture.I love seeing other people's ideas/inspiration
